Dugongs have recently migrated at ko Phra Thong sea grass meadow reacting from the vanishing seagrass meadows in Hat Chao Mai National Park and Moo Koh Libong Marine Park Reserve in Trang Province.
Seagrass beds have shrunk dramatically due to ocean pollution, coastal development, and climate change. Without these critical habitats, the future for Thailand’s dugongs looks bleak.
