Environmental Education in THAILAND

In 2006, IOSEA, Indian Ocean and South-East Asia an international organization declared the year 2006 'Year of the Turtle'. They sponsored many activities through out south East Asia to celebrate all sea turtle conservation actions.

In March 2006, Naucrates conducted a turtle drawing competition at Tapayoi and Thung Dap schools. Children participated with enthusiasm.

They were very curious to find out the name of the winner. Bee, a 12 year old from Tapayoi won! The winning picture was printed on t-shirts which were handed out for free to all the school children.

Together with the lessons, some side projects were conducted: a vegetable garden (pumpkins, cucumbers, water melons) in the school was created; a recycling project was started and the pupils have been making nice things from recyclable materials; a library catalogue was created placing books according to their subject.

Children day is a big celebration all over Thailand and well celebrated on the island. It took place on the 14th of January 2006. The Naucrates team and volunteers went to both villages (Tapaeyoi and Thung Dap) to participate in various activities and bring support to the local schools.

English Class for the village:

At 16:30 twice a week Naucrates team taught English to children and to whomever from the village that want to attend lessons.
The English classes were set up to revise and improve the basic English lessons already taught at school.
Furthermore the lessons were orientated toward usual activities taking place in the village.
The goal was for the students to be able to follow instructions and direct themselves and others around the different locations present in the village.

The adult English classes were organized for the villagers who wanted to learn English. They were also given twice a week and followed the lesson plan of the student English program.
